Mary Knowles

Director of Communications

As Communications Director, Mary Knowles is involved with all aspects of telling World Energy’s story to the public, directing media relations and maximizing a wide variety of opportunities for World Energy’s leadership to share information and insights externally.

Mary began her career in televisions news and information, at outlets including CBS News, ABC News, and WNET (PBS). She went on to become a long-time producer for Bill Maher on his late-night talk shows, Politically Incorrect and Real Time. She led a highly collaborative team to book and prepare national and international politicians, intellectuals, journalists and public figures of all political persuasions for unscripted interviews and panel discussions about issues of the day. Mary helped build the program’s reputation as a fair, impactful forum, worthy of more than 20 Emmy nominations. She is particularly proud to have brought many environmental experts to a national audience.

Prior to joining World Energy, Mary was an account principal with the national public relations firm, Kivvit, where she advised and supported clients in multiple sectors, including clean energy. She also established a media relations consulting practice, developing messaging, media training and securing press coverage for a range of clients.

Mary holds an M.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University and a B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University.
