Sustainable Aviation Fuel
World Energy’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a drop-in biofuel made entirely from renewable agricultural inputs. It can be safely used in existing aircraft engines and infrastructure without any modifications.
Key Features and Benefits
We produce SAF from sustainable agricultural resources. Our SAF is a drop-in fuel that requires no changes in aircraft or engine fuel systems, distribution infrastructure, or storage facilities.
Domestically produced biofuel
Made entirely from agricultural feedstocks
Drop-in fuel solution
Good for our air and our economy
Best-in-class carbon intensity
Used in hundreds of thousands of flights
The SAF Difference
SAF is a cleaner-burning fuel that emits less sulfur and particulates. See the difference for yourself.
Production
World Energy was the world’s first commercial-scale producer of SAF and is one of the largest and longest-serving clean energy suppliers in North America. We currently produce SAF at our facility in Paramount, California, and are working to launch a new SAF hub in Houston.
Feedstock
Our sustainable aviation fuel is produced from inedible agricultural waste, fats, oils, and greases. We don’t use food crops like corn, soy, or palm oil, ensuring we support farming practices that are good for our land and water while avoiding potential impacts on our food supply.
Process
We’ve converted a legacy petroleum refinery in California to produce SAF through a process called hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA). Our HEFA process refines inedible agricultural feedstocks into SAF using hydrogen (hydrogenation).
Distribution
World Energy currently delivers fuel by truck and is working toward dramatically improving biofuel logistics in Southern California with pipelines that can optimize biofuel distribution.
