Sustainable Aviation Fuel
World Energy’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is a low-carbon fuel that can be used in existing aircraft engines and infrastructure without any modifications. Our SAF is made entirely of renewable resources and contains no fossil-based feedstock.
Key Features and Benefits
Our sustainable aviation fuel is a drop-in fuel that requires zero changes in aircraft or engine fuel systems, distribution infrastructure, or storage facilities.
Produced from sustainable sources, in a sustainable way
Best-in-class carbon intensity
Reduces emissions by up to 85%
Zero fossil-based feedstocks
Meets and exceeds stringent fuel quality standards
Drop-in fuel solution
Sustainable Aviation Fuel vs. Conventional Jet Fuel
SAF is a cleaner-burning fuel that emits less sulfur and particulates compared to traditional jet fuel. See the difference for yourself.
Production
World Energy was the world’s first commercial-scale producer of sustainable aviation fuel and is one of the largest and longest-serving clean energy suppliers in North America. We currently produce SAF at our facility in Paramount, CA, and are working to launch a new SAF hub in Houston, TX.
Feedstock
Our SAF is produced from inedible agricultural waste, fats, oils, and greases. It contains no fossil-based feedstock, and we don’t use food crops like corn, soy, and palm oil.
Process
We’ve converted a legacy petroleum refinery in California to produce sustainable aviation fuel through a process called hydrotreated esters and fatty acids (HEFA). Our HEFA process refines inedible agricultural fats and waste oils into SAF through the use of hydrogen (hydrogenation).
Distribution
World Energy currently delivers fuel by truck and is working toward dramatically improving biofuel logistics in Southern California with pipelines that can optimize low-carbon fuel distribution.
